Leaky ducts can create a world of problems that can easily fly under the radar and lead to costly repairs in the future. You may not notice right away, but blower door testing can often lead to the discovery of duct leakage issues that require further testing. Whether you find that you will have to have duct leakage to outside testing completed or you simply choose to have it completed even if it doesn’t become mandatory, Calcs-Plus is ready to help. We have completed thousands of projects and tested countless HVAC systems since 1991, giving us unmatched insight and the ability to recommend effective, code-compliant solutions while there’s still plenty of time to fix them.
Unlike blower door testing, duct leakage to outside testing isn’t always required. The only instances where this test is required are when it is specified in Form R405—which is part of Florida’s Energy Code compliance pathway—or when it is explicitly noted on the submitted energy code documents that this test is needed to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy. Duct leakage to outside testing must be completed after blower door testing and works by pressurizing or depressurizing the home to measure how much air escapes from the ducts to the outside of the home’s air barrier (including unconditioned spaces within the home). This test is completed after blower door testing, but it can be done on the same day as the blower door testing.
Calcs-Plus has decades of experience completing duct leakage testing throughout the state of Florida, giving us the considerable experience and hyperlocal knowledge to quickly guide you to code compliance if duct issues are discovered. We have hands-on field knowledge and understand exactly how HVAC systems are installed, inspected, and used in Florida. Plus, we are:
